By minimizing a quadratic measure of the error in the 2-D frequency band, an eigenvector of an appropriate matrix is computed to get the filter coefficients. This method is not only simple but is also optimal in the least-squares sense. Several numerical design examples of 2-D arbitrary shape filters are used to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach. © 1990 IEEEElectric Filters, Low Pass; Mathematical Techniques--Least Squares Approximations; Optimization; Signal Filtering and Prediction; 2D Fan Filters; 2D FIR Eigenfilters; Circular/Elliptical Low Pass Filter; Electric Filters, Digital2-D FIR Eigenfilters: A Least-Squares Approachjournal article10.1109/31.456882-s2.0-0025211589
