The purpose of this subproject is to propose a “balanced benchmarking” model to address the fairness issue in performance evaluation for products and organizations in inherently different, non-homogenous environments. The traditional data envelopment analysis (DEA) model will be modified to create a level playing field for performance evaluation in order to achieve a balance between efficiency as a traditional performance measure and fairness as a key measure of sustainability.
