2007-08-012024-05-17https://scholars.lib.ntu.edu.tw/handle/123456789/680506摘要:二十世紀計算機的發明,使人類有強力的工具處理大量的數據與資料,並從其中尋找規律,建立數學模型。今日,計算機已促成了各學門進行數量化與數學化的革命。由於數學具共通性與本質性,數學的突破,往往造成許多學門的連鎖突破;而各學門所提供豐富且多樣的問題,不但引領數學的走向,也促成了數學科學的蓬勃發展。基於此,我們規劃的數學科學研究中心,旨在推動跨領域數學科學的研究,作為培育數學科學人才的基地,並提供海外學者返台活動的舞台,進而提昇台灣數學的國際知名度。不久的將來,天文數學大樓完成、中研院數學所搬來之後,這個中心也將擴大作為雙方合作的平台。 (一) 推動跨領域數學科學的研究. 從十七世紀牛頓的力學與微積分誕生之後,數學與近代科技一直扮演相輔相成的角色。藉助於數學的威力,許多科技問題得以解決;另一方面,近代科技也提供出許多新的數學課題,經由這些問題的研究,形成數學的新領域與新方向。二十世紀初期「純數學」與「應用數學」各擅勝場;但是,從1920年代以來,純數學逐漸取得壓倒性的優勢。把純數學與應用數學割裂分離,將使兩者均蒙受無可彌補的損失。尤其是二十世紀計算機的發展,促成了許多學門進行數量化的革命,對數學需求殷切,數學的突破,常造成許多學科的連鎖突破,因此,應用數學又再度受到數學界的重視。許多國家具體的作法是設置數學科學研究中心,作為各領域與數學對話的平台。 <br> Abstract: The invention of computers, as a powerful tool, enables human to cope with mass numbers of data as well as to find the patterns within them and then to build mathematical models. Today, computers catalyze the revolution of quantification and mathematization in many fields of study. Since mathematics is applicable in other discipline, a break-through in mathematics might as well results break-through in other areas of study. So that the reason we initiate a mathematical science center is to drive the inter-discipline studies of mathematical science, to be a foundation of fostering talents, and also to provide a stage and environment for returned scholars from overseas to further fame the knowledge of mathematics of Taiwan nationwide. In the future, after the construction of Astronomic-Mathematical building and relocation of Institute of Mathematics, Academia Sinica this center would also be the platform to broaden the association of both sides. I. To drive the inter-discipline studies of mathematical science Mathematics and contemporary technologies are auxiliaries of each other since the invention of Calculus by Isaac Newton. Many technology puzzles are able to be solved because of mathematics. Since 19th century, because of the experiences of the advance developments of mathematics, the “Pure Mathematics” and “Applied Mathematics” were formed. In the beginning of the 20th century, “Pure Mathematics” and “Applied Mathematics” were having each of their own important roles in many areas of study. However, since 1920, Pure Mathematics superseded Applied Mathematics gradually. To segregate the Pure and Applied Mathematics have made a great irremediable damage to the study of mathematics. The developments of computers have catalyzed the revolution of quantification, the needs in mathematics, and the break-through in many fields of study. Applied Mathematics has once again drawn the attentions.
