Inappropriate and static posture related to longtime use may lead to heal concerns, including musculoskeletal discomfort and visual fatigue. It is therefore important to quantify the ergonomic exposure and explore the influence of personal factors and designs. The information may also be useful to provide evidence for health intervention or education. Several factors influence the ergonomic exposure from smartphones or tablet computers, such as the size/weight of devices, size of characters, position of device, design of keyboard, etc. However, the studies were limited. This project constituted 2 parts. The first part includes an epidemiological study for the users’ habits of hand-held electronic devices among MRT commuters. The second part will use a repeated measurement in laboratory setting to analysis the ergonomic exposure of upper limbs during different posture (sitting vs. standing), devices (smartphones vs. tablet computers), and tasks (browsing, texting). Thirty subjects will participate in the study. Electro-goniometers, surface electromyography and questionnaire will be used for exposure assessment and outcome evaluation. Our results will be able to provide comprehensive data for further recommendation for hand-held electronic device users.智慧型手機平板電腦人因工程暴露評估表面肌電圖關節活動度肌肉骨骼系統Smartphonetablet computerergonomicsexposure assessmentelectromyographyrange of motionmusculoskeletal systemThe Posture, Muscle Activities and Self-Perceived Comfort among Different Hand-Held Electronic Devices
