It is also a focus of concern for HIV/AIDS related researchers and practitioners. The perceived stigma experience of HIV/AIDS patients not only increases patients’ stress but also indirectly is detrimental to their psychosocial morbidity, quality of life and physical well-being. With the prospect of increasing numbers of patients, the illness nature of the multiple systems involvement, the lengthy treatment process, and the decreased morbidity and mortality due to effective pharmaceutical treatment, professionals need to be better informed about patients’ stigma experience in order to provide efficacious, compassionate, and efficient care to patients. Even with the importance of stigma experience of patients with HIV/AIDS, the development of such a measurement is still in the beginning stage. The purpose of this study is to develop a stigma instrument with good psychometric qualities in order to understand the facets and level of stigma experienced by patients infected with HIV as well as the relationship between the perceived stigma and patients’ self esteem, mastery, and quality of life. The valid measurement will be a useful research and clinical instrument for future longitudinal and interventional studies. The proposed study is two years’ study. The study’s purposes of the first year are to develop a stigma instrument of patients with HIV infection and to test its reliability and validity. The purposes of the second year study are to investigate the relationship between stigma experience and patients’ demographic characteristics and illness related factors, and the relationship between the perceived stigma and patients’ self esteem, mastery, and quality of life.HIV 感染者烙印經驗HIV infected patientstigma experienceHIV感染者烙印經驗之研究
