The aim of this project – “Ocean Acoustics Joint Experiment” is to establish quantitative measures of the changes for the sonar performance, ocean environment, and the relationship of each other for the appointed site in Taiwan’s waters. Sonar performance is quantified by its acoustic parameters, namely sonar detection range, detection probability, and sweep width. The acoustic parameters obtained by data assimilation (both numerical simulation and field data inputs) are then used in Anti-submarine warfare model analysis, thus enhance the accuracy of the ASW model analysis. The project is a three-year project, and the proposal is for the second year. For the first year, the acoustic vertical array receiving system is established, and one acoustic propagation experiment was conducted in August this year. For the second year, there are six individual projects which include ocean hydrographic and bottom measurements, source Localization, noise directionality, acoustic propagation, the statistical analysis of acoustic parameters, and ASW model analysis.
