This research targets three questions, in order to further our understanding in how people may face social issues involving tense intergroup relations. First, based on three characteristics of moral reasoning, this research examines major moral principles among the Taiwanese and proposes to examine the evidence from these three characteristics (across social groups, across descriptions and scenarios, and across perspectives) in two studies of the first year. Secondly, this research investigates which moral principles may function from automatic affective processes, and which moral principles may function from systematic and cognitive processes (Study 1 in Year II). This research tests whether engaging in different moral principles may result in different decisions, and whether dehumanization may be a mediator in the associations of certain moral principles and support of certain stance in controversial social issues and policies (Study 2 in Year II). I adopt experimental and survey methods in the two-year proposal. The findings from this research will further our understanding of the mechanisms involving moral reasoning and intergroup interactions, and elucidate potential factors and mediating mechanisms in controversial social issues. In the end, this research may provide ways to communicate and understand different parties involved in controversial social issues.群際關係道德思維去個人化情緒與認知歷程intergroup relationsmoral reasoningdehumanizationaffective and cognitive processes現今台灣社會的社會議題爭辯:道德考量或偏見?
