In collaboration with the National Council on Crime & Delinquency, Children’s Research Center (CRC), we will facilitate, supervise, and evaluate the instrument development and implementation. Supported by CRC’s wealth of implementation experience with other regions, we follow the evaluative framework proposed by Gearing et al. (2011), through educational training, early adaptor pilot practice, and supervisory and evaluative mechanisms, aiming to produce a Taiwan-version SDM Safety Assessment that is adapted to Taiwan Child Protection legislation and field practice. The implementation of Safety Assessment will facilitate structured evaluation during crisis situations, sharpen the quality of assessment, and facilitate best practice on safety evaluation. More importantly the standardization of this procedure will also ensure the safety of our children and relieving the enormous stress social workers receive upon decisions on removal. Furthermore, we are the first to adapt SDM instruments to the Chinese-speaking regions or countries. We hope to share our valuable experiences in SDM development and implementation with fellow Chinese-speaking countries.
