Veterinary clinical sciences have become very important parts for veterinary education in the university. The veterinary graduate school started to set up clinical divisions for advanced clinical training of veterinary graduate students twenty years ago. Graduate studies combining with residency training started in the divisions of small animal surgery and internal medicine ten years ago. In this combined program, the graduate students of surgery and internal medicine will be awarded master degree and certificate of residency training following completion of three to four years of clinical training as well as master's study. The Graduate Institute of Clinical Veterinary Science was established in the College of Bio-Resources and Agriculture on 1 August 2007. The Institute of Clinical Veterinary Science consists of divisions of companion animal medicine, farm animal medicine, and exotic animal medicine. Annually, 10 vet school graduate students are admitted to the graduate school to receive advance clinical and research training. There is a separate 3-year full-time small animal residency program offered by the National Taiwan University Veterinary Hospital. Graduate students are encouraged to enroll into resident program to complement their clinical research training. There are currently 9 clinical faculty members in the Graduate Institute. Adjunct faculty from the NTU medical and dental schools are also involved in the clinical teaching and training at the institute. The aims of future development of the institute are to provide advanced clinical training for clinical graduate students / residents being more competitive in the veterinary profession. Besides, we also select promising senior veterinarians to be trained as clinical faculty. Because only well organized veterinary residency program has been developed to date, we will help other veterinary schools / departments to develop in Taiwan veterinary residency training system in the future. In addition, the schools will also contribute to continuous education for practicing veterinarians and establishment of veterinary specialties in Taiwan.獸醫學系（所）於1942年成立，系齡已逾六十五年。隨著時代的進步，臨床獸醫師的角色迅速多樣化，國內現有的五年制獸醫大學教育，早已經難以滿足專業化的臨床獸醫師人力需求。早在二十年前，為了培育高等臨床人材，本校獸醫學研究所開始設立臨床組進行高階臨床訓練。十年前，小動物內外科先後開始合併研究所臨床組與住院醫師訓練，在完成嚴格的三至四年訓練之後，除授予學位證書外，同時頒發住院訓練證書。經過多年的發展與整合，生農學院新設的臨床動物醫學研究所終於在民國96年8月1日正式揭牌成立。　 臨床動物醫學研究所碩士班分為大動物及野生動物組以及伴侶動物組，每年約錄取12位研究生，將視不同領域配合臨床專科訓練，修業二至四年。本所與獸醫專業學院動物醫院合作，也招收全職小動物內外科住院醫師，接受為期三年的專科住院訓練；本所大動物及野生動物組亦自兩年前開始進行三年的住院醫師訓練；至此，臨床所各組建立了統一的訓練制度。 臨床動物醫學研究所的師資目前有專任教師8位（未來將可達14位），以及包括臺大醫院骨科侯勝茂教授，臺大醫院牙科洪志遠教授等合聘或兼任之臨床師資，與協助教學的資深住院醫師及總醫師。 在發展方向與工作重點上，臨床動醫所將繼續提供臨床研究生專科住院醫師訓練、增加臨床教員之比例與專業性，並且因應國內環境，培育未來的臨床教學人材。因為國內目前只有臺灣大學建立嚴格及制度化的專科獸醫師養成制度，未來也將協助推動其他獸醫院校系所建立標準化的住院醫師訓練，並且籌設動物臨床醫學專科醫學會，推動臨床研究與獸醫師繼續教育，最終建立專科臨床獸醫師之國家認證制度。Academic Institute
