<br> Abstract: This project includes significant issues and theories in modern cultural studies, intending to depict the diverse and mixing traits of this field in the globalization era. The project is composed of 11 sub-projects, with five focusing on pop culture and six on cultural translation. For the previous pivot, researchers will inspect how pop culture is translated into various presentation forms via different media, trying to dig the implied issues and ideologies. Each researcher puts emphasis on animation, movies, folk activities (hip-hop Prince Nezha dancers), light novels, and popular literature. For the later pivot, researchers will take cross-border and transformation as the cores, studying relevant issues in literature, culture, movies, languages, and translation theories. The research group comprises members from NTU’s English, library and Taiwanese literature departments and institutes, and NTNU’s translation institute. All members are proficient in different languages, including Chinese, English, Russian, German, Japanese, and Spanish. This trait allows the group to analyze the homogeneity and heterogeneity among cultures, to find the struggles between cultural hegemony and minority, to inspect the strong media and business strategies in modern pop and consumption cultures, and to see the problems of transmission and cross-border in the process of interpretation. Besides, the researchers will each help enhance graduates’ academic ability during the research period, and plan to hold study groups, panels, and publish conference and journal papers. The cross-art and cross-genre project allows sub-projects to complement each other and therefore better knows the symbols, referential meanings and socio-political contexts of targeted cultures. This project may thus fulfill its objective: to know how local individuals respond and keep their uniqueness while facing globalization.文化研究跨文化流行文化文化翻譯全球化cultural studiescross-culturepop culturecultural translationglobalization(100)學術領域-文學院-跨文化與跨媒材的轉譯研究
