<br> Abstract: This project aims to revise and publish the 2014 PhD dissertation, Capitalist Institution and Class Consciousness in Post-Martial Law Taiwan Fiction. The book starts with class issues, which are relatively neglected in the discussion of history of Taiwan literature, and sketches out the historical changes of local leftist literature to explain how class consciousness interacts with the social conditions of contemporary Taiwan. This project of revision will expand on and supplement the following aspects: 1. How mainland writers construct "ethnically-oriented class narratives" in response to the ethnic conflict that emerged under marital law. 2. How contemporary Taiwan fiction depicts such capitalist social relations as conflicts between capitalists and workers, exploitation mechanisms and experiences of alienation. 3. Whereas the aesthetics of postmodern fiction vividly depicts class differentiation, it also optimistically fantasizes about economic development and historical progressivism. 5. Supplementation to class issues in the history of Taiwan literature from gender perspective.
