First, the bridging stress versus the crack-opening displacement relationship for elastic bridging with a bonded fiber/matrix interface is derived. The conditions for subsequent interfacial debonding and fiber fracture associated with elastic bridging fibers are discussed. Then, the elastic bridging relationship is compared with the previously-derived bridging relationships for unbonded interfaces with frictional bridging (for frictional stretching of intact fibers) and fiber pullout (for fractured or short fibers). Finally, probable bridging mechanisms are deduced by the consideration of the calculated bridging stresses and comparison of the evaluated fracture toughness increment with the measured R-curve behavior. ? 1991.[SDGs]SDG11Some considerations of bridging stresses for fiber-reinforced ceramicsjournal article10.1016/0961-9526(91)90014-J2-s2.0-0003178414https://www2.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-0003178414&doi=10.1016%2f0961-9526%2891%2990014-J&partnerID=40&md5=8e7dfbc32c8a90f137cb0e83b4b6382b
