Cutter runout is a common condition affecting performance in multi-tooth metal cutting operations, such as milling. A three-axis vertical milling machine, an S50C workpiece, and a variable pitch variable helix (VPVH) tool were used for the experiments. The average method was adopted to obtain force signals with obvious periodicity. Two runout parameters identification methods were proposed. The first method is to fix the offset direction angle ? and find the offset distance ? and shifted angle with the lowest RMSE. The second method is to fix the offset distance ? and find the offset direction angle ? and shifted angle with the lowest RMSE. Comparing the two methods for identifying runout parameters, the method with fixed ? obtained lower RMSE in different criteria and took less calculation time.trueexperimental measuringmillingrunoutrunout identificationRunout parameters identification in milling processjournal article10.1016/j.procir.2024.10.1442-s2.0-85213070304
