Studies from the past have shown egg parasitism and egg tossing outside the nest; however, the mechanism of the behavior is not yet clear . The aim of this project is to establish the method of hatching and raising Blue-tailed bee-eaters, and find out the mechanism of their egg parasitism. First, we will pick up abandoned eggs when patrolling the colonies in breeding season, and send them back to Taipei Zoo for hatching and raising. Second, we will build a suitable living area for bee-eaters in Taipei zoo. Third, we will try to find out the mechanism of egg abandonment. Results from this study will help to establish techniques of hatching and raising bee-eaters in captivity, also to provide teaching materials for environmental education and species conservation. The general public will gain bee-eater’s knowledge from the zoo exhibition and learn to protect the species.栗喉蜂虎托卵寄生域外保育Blue-tailed Bee-eateregg parasitismex situ conservation栗喉蜂虎棄蛋孵育計畫
