In our preliminary study, the temporal tracings of tissue oxygenation are measured using diffuse optical multipatch measurement and a venous occlusion test, employing normal subjects and ICU patients suffering from sepsis and heart failure. In experiments, obvious differences in tissue oxygenation signals were observed among all three groups. This paper discusses the physiological relevance of tissue oxygenation with respect to disease. ? 2011 IEEE.Diffuse optical multipatch technique; diffuse optical spectroscopic imaging (DOSI); heart failure; intensive care medicine; near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS); oxygenation dynamics; sepsis; venous occlusion test (VOT)[SDGs]SDG3Diffuse optical; heart failure; Intensive care; Multipatch; sepsis; Venous occlusion; Cardiology; Monitoring; Oxygenation; Oxygenators; Tissue; Intensive care units; deoxyhemoglobin; oxyhemoglobin; adult; aged; analytic method; article; clinical article; controlled study; heart failure; human; intensive care unit; measurement; monitoring; sepsis; tissue oxygenation; vein occlusion; Diagnosis, Computer-Assisted; Heart Failure; Humans; Intensive Care; Nephelometry and Turbidimetry; Oximetry; Oxygen; Refractometry; Reproducibility of Results; Sensitivity and Specificity; SepsisDiffuse optical multipatch technique for tissue oxygenation monitoring: Clinical study in intensive care unitjournal article10.1109/TBME.2011.2147315215365172-s2.0-84555190736
