One hundred and fifty three samples of macroalgae and 54 soft corals samples were collected, and more than 200 strains of microalgae were isolated and cultivated in the first year. In the previous screening, more than 20 % of the samples mentioned above were found to exert strong cytotoxicity. After that, twenty-six compounds were purified from microalgae, at least 6 of them exerted strong cytotoxicity, and 12 of them were new compounds, among which 2 new skeletal compounds were found. Fifty-five compounds were purified from macroalgae, nine of them exerted strong cytotoxicity, and 28 of them were new compounds, among which 14 new skeletal compounds were found.
