A 9-year-old boy, diagnosed with HD-HLH, received chemotherapy and remained in complete remission for 21 months. Then the patient received the first autologous transplant and unfortunately died due to multiorgan failure after the second allogeneic transplant because of sequentially respective relapse of HD and HLH. The recurrence of HLH with a high Epstein-Barr virus load but without relapse of HD in the patient suggests that Epstein-Barr virus may have a major pathogenetic role in the specific disorder HLH-HD. Detailed reports relating to HLH-HD were also reviewed. ? 2009 by Lippincott Williams & Wilkins.Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis; Hodgkin disease[SDGs]SDG3alanine aminotransferase; albumin; antibiotic agent; aspartate aminotransferase; bilirubin; bleomycin; busulfan; C reactive protein; CD20 antigen; CD3 antigen; CD30 antigen; CD45 antigen; cisplatin; corticosteroid; cyclophosphamide; cyclosporin; cytarabine; dacarbazine; doxorubicin; etoposide; ferritin; fibrinogen; hemoglobin; immunoglobulin G; lactate dehydrogenase; methotrexate; methylprednisolone; prednisolone; vinblastine; vincristine; allotransplantation; anamnesis; autotransplantation; cancer regression; cancer relapse; case report; child; Epstein Barr virus; graft versus host reaction; hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis; hepatomegaly; Hodgkin disease; human; human tissue; immunohistochemistry; lymphadenopathy; male; priority journal; respiratory distress; review; school child; septicemia; splenomegaly; virus load; Child; Fatal Outcome; Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation; Herpesvirus 4, Human; Hodgkin Disease; Humans; Lymphohistiocytosis, Hemophagocytic; Male; Recurrence; Treatment Failure; Viral LoadSequential transplants for respective relapse of hodgkin disease and hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis: A treatment dilemmareview10.1097/MPH.0b013e3181b38b4e197559212-s2.0-70349789675
