More and more scholars have suggested that our mainstream culture is one major obstacle to sustainability. Practices for shifting culture, however, has been rarely institutionalized in our societies. Major reasons are that we have not identified (1) problematic dimensions of our mainstream culture and (2) social practices that potentially alleviate the problematic dimensions for greater sustainability. My project attempts to fill these two knowledge gaps. I will first compare mainstream and marginal cultures to identify problematic dimensions of the mainstream culture. I will then examine social practices used in a marginal culture with greater sustainability that will potentially alleviate the problematic dimensions of our mainstream culture. My goal is not merely to improve academic understanding, but to propose cultural intervention plans for international organizations. I know that international organizations understand the importance of cultural interventions but have virtually no ideas about them. International organizations thus have difficulties in setting post-SDG goals. Findings of my research will be translated into policy recommendations for these international organizations. My project will thus affect international policymaking and concrete social practices for greater sustainability.individualism;culture;sustainability創始計畫-How to alleviate excessive individualism through education for sustainability
