Based on a finite dimensional approximation model of the distributed parameter systems, we can design finite dimensional controllers via the optimal control theory for finite dimensional systems. For these controllers, we make the stability and performance analysis of the overall system including the controller. The result shows that for the class of distributed parameter systems under discussion, it is possible to design finite dimensional controllers directly based on the finite dimensional approximation model which exponentially stabilize the overall systems.
