After adding sodium borohydride into copper sulfide, a strong reaction occurred and ZVC particles were produced after 5 minutes. The particle size was 250 nm and 1,468 nm measured by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS), respectively. According to X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, these particles contained zero-valent copper. ZVC particles removed 25 to 100 ppm of Reactive Black 5 (RB5) effectively and the efficiency of removal enhanced while the temperature went higher. Furthermore, the activation energy for RB5 degradation was 16.30 kJ/mol calculated by Arrhenius equation. Our results illustrated the basic characteristics and RB5 removal ability of ZVC particles.
