In this proposal, we aim to investigate these two questions with the following approaches. First, we will study the functions of human consciousness by examining, with behavioural experiments, which perceptual functions can occur without consciousness and which appear to require consciousness? In particular, we will present stimuli unconsciously (e.g. invisibly with masking) and investigate what information can be processed by subjects with or without consciousness. Second, we aim to investigate neural correlates of human consciousness by measuring changes in neural activity that correspond to perceptual changes. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), Magnetoencephalography (MEG), and/or Electroencephalography (EEG), we will compare neural processes underlying conscious and unconscious perceptions (e.g. by measuring neural activities when a stimulus is visible versus invisible). By collecting and comparing data across different kinds of stimuli/paradigms and across sensory modalities, we wish to provide converging evidence to reveal the functions and neural bases of human consciousness.意識無意識功能性磁振造影腦磁圖腦電圖consciousnessunconscious perceptionfMRIMEGEEG教育部【玉山青年學者】計畫-理學院謝伯讓
