Moreover, differences in the cause, phenotypes, and natural history of IBD between the East and West have been recognized. Therefore, the Asian Organization for Crohn's and Colitis and the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology have established recommendations on medical management of IBD in Asia. Initially, the committee members drafted 40 recommendations, which were then assessed according to Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation. Eight statements were rejected as this indicated that consensus had not been reached. The recommendations encompass pretreatment evaluation; medical management of active IBD; medical management of IBD in remission; management of IBD during the periconception period and pregnancy; surveillance strategies for colitis-associated cancer; monitoring side effects of thiopurines and methotrexate; and infections in IBD. ? 2020 Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Foundation and John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltdbiologics; chronic ulcerative colitis; Clostridium difficile; Crohn's disease; cytomegalovirus; inflammatory bowel disease; intestinal tuberculosis[SDGs]SDG3biological product; immunosuppressive agent; mercaptopurine; mesalazine; methotrexate; salazosulfapyridine; steroid; tuberculostatic agent; aminosalicylic acid; azathioprine; corticosteroid; immunosuppressive agent; adverse drug reaction; anus disease; Asia; chemoprophylaxis; colitis; Crohn disease; differential diagnosis; disease activity; disease surveillance; gastroenterology; health care organization; human; infection; inflammatory bowel disease; intestinal tuberculosis; latent tuberculosis; medical practice; opportunistic infection; patient monitoring; pregnancy; priority journal; remission; Review; screening; ulcerative colitis; Crohn disease; female; gastroenterology; gastrointestinal tuberculosis; male; medical society; organization and management; Pacific islands; physiologic monitoring; practice guideline; ulcerative colitis; Adrenal Cortex Hormones; Aminosalicylic Acid; Asia; Azathioprine; Colitis, Ulcerative; Crohn Disease; Diagnosis, Differential; Female; Gastroenterology; Humans; Immunosuppressive Agents; Male; Methotrexate; Monitoring, Physiologic; Pacific Islands; Practice Guidelines as Topic; Pregnancy; Remission Induction; Societies, Medical; Tuberculosis, GastrointestinalAsian Organization for Crohn's and Colitis and Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology practice recommendations for medical management and monitoring of inflammatory bowel disease in Asiareview10.1111/jgh.15185326728392-s2.0-85088692907
