2016-01-012024-05-16https://scholars.lib.ntu.edu.tw/handle/123456789/667865摘要:本子計畫為台大高能實驗組參與歐洲大強子對撞機CMS國際實驗團隊的硬體核心計畫。內容主要分為兩部分,一是配合CMS畫素探測器升級,在台大複製相同的工作平台並進而參與下期升級的研發工作。另一個則為利用原台灣負責的前置簇偵測器的高能光子鑑別功能研究希格斯粒子。 畫素探測器是CMS實驗的核心,由於最靠近質子質子碰撞點,可獲得許多的重要資訊。但因為輻射傷害,每隔數年便須重新更新。台大侯維恕教授已獲得國科會攻頂計畫的補助,與CERN合作共同負責三分之一中央環畫素偵測器的升級更新。由於國科會的經費僅夠支付硬體本身的製作組裝測試,而此工作僅能在CERN執行完成。本計畫是希望在台大複製相同的工作平台,一方面訓練本地的學生,另一方面建立基礎,以參與下期新型畫素探測器的研發。 大強子對撞機的首要物理,便是並研究造成各基本粒子質量的源頭--希格斯粒子。台大掌握一有效利器,因為我們與中大合作負責CMS前置簇偵測器的製作、組裝,運轉。現幾乎全是由台大負責校正並維護其功用。由於它可鑑別高能的光子與π0介子,對於希格斯粒子衰變到雙光子的研究極為重要。本計畫將詳述如何提供本組的硬體經驗優勢,配合分析團隊,為研究希格斯粒子做出貢獻。 <br> Abstract: This sub-proposal is about the NTUHEP hardware involvement at the CERN CMS experiment. It has two throngs. The first one is for the CMS Pixel I upgrade and duplicates the platform at NTU in order to participate in the R&D work of the next generation pixel detector. The 2nd one is to use the &#61552;&#61552;0/&#61543;&#61543; separation capability of the Preshower detector to study the observed Higgs particles. The pixel detector is located at the heart of CMS and is the closest detector to the proton-proton collision point. It offers very important information for new particle searches. However, it has to be replaced every few years due to radiation damage. Under the NSC Academic Summit project, Prof. Wei-Shu Hou is leading a team to deliver one third of the Bpix detector in the coming four years at CERN. We would aim at complementing the CERN-side activities with developing the home ground platform, which can be very useful for the future R&D towards the Phase 2 Upgrade. The experience gained is beneficial to our graduate students and possibly to the local industry. Our past hardware contribution, the Preshower detector, is critical for the H → &#61543;&#61543; decay channel. We have the full expertise to maintain this system which can provide good &#61552;0/&#61543; separation power.
