As a result, it is always a goal to minimize the positioning time while maintaining a desired level of accuracy. This study developed a global positioning system (GPS)-based information system, which integrated sixmajormodules. This systemwas designed to provide a real-time positioning and guidance solution for piledriving barge control in a marine pier construction project. In a case study, the developed system has been implemented successfully in a real project and proved this system can improve the horizontal accuracy of real-time pile positions by less than 1 cm. It also contributed to a 42% reduction in the construction time and thus an 11% reduction in the final budget. Consequently, the efficiency of a piling construction project could be improved significantly by incorporating such a system. © 2013 American Society of Civil Engineers.Global positioning system (GPS); Information systems; Marine engineering; Piling construction[SDGs]SDG14Construction projects; Construction time; Environmental limitations; Guidance information; Marine meteorology; Marine piers; Pile position; Time-consuming tasks; Global positioning system; Information systems; Marine engineering; Piers; Tracking (position); Piles; accuracy assessment; coastal engineering; construction method; efficiency measurement; GPS; harbor; pier; pile driving; real timeGPS-Based real-time guidance information system for marine pier constructionjournal article10.1061/(ASCE)SU.1943-5428.00000962-s2.0-84881289417
