Three new eunicellin-derived diterpenoids of briarellin type, briarenones A-C (1-3), were isolated from a Formosan gorgonian Briareum violaceum. The chemical structures of the compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analyses, including two-dimensional (2D) NMR. The absolute configuration of 1 was further confirmed by a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The in vitro cytotoxic and anti-inflammatory potentialities of the isolated metabolites were tested against the growth of a limited panel of cancer cell lines and against the production of superoxide anions and elastase release in N-formyl-methionyl-leucyl-phenyl-alanine and cytochalasin B (fMLF/CB)-stimulated human neutrophils, respectively.enBriarellin | Briarenones | Briareum violaceum | GorgonianBriarellin; Briarenones; Briareum violaceum; Gorgonian[SDGs]SDG3Briarenones A; Briarenones B; Briarenones C; cytochalasin B; diterpenoid; elastase; unclassified drug; antineoplastic agent; cytochalasin; diterpene; nonsteroid antiinflammatory agent; pancreatic elastase; superoxide; antiinflammatory activity; Article; Briareum violaceum; cancer cell line; Cnidaria; cytotoxicity; drug isolation; drug structure; enzyme release; human; human cell; in vitro study; neutrophil; nuclear magnetic resonance; X ray diffraction; animal; chemistry; conformation; drug effect; isolation and purification; metabolism; molecular model; nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; tumor cell line; Animals; Anti-Inflammatory Agents, Non-Steroidal; Antineoplastic Agents; Cell Line, Tumor; Cnidaria; Cytochalasins; Diterpenes; Humans; Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy; Models, Molecular; Molecular Conformation; Neutrophils; Pancreatic Elastase; Superoxides; X-Ray DiffractionBriarenones A-C, New Briarellin Diterpenoids from the Gorgonian Briareum violaceumjournal article10.3390/md17020120307815692-s2.0-85061865304WOS:000460795500048https://api.elsevier.com/content/abstract/scopus_id/85061865304
