Carbonaceous nanoparticles were observed along the surface of the nano-fibrous structure of the hydrogels. The carbonaceous materials also cross-link the entangled nanofibers and lead to durable 3D hydrogel formation. Hydrothermal carbonization of 0.2 M glucose with chitin nanofibers at 180 ¢XC for 4 h resulted in a carbonaceous hydrogel with optimal strength and 99.3% water content. ? 2012 The Royal Society of Chemistry.Carbonaceous hydrogels based on hydrothermal carbonization of glucose with chitin nanofibersjournal article10.1039/c2sm07462a2-s2.0-84863269104https://www.scopus.com/inward/record.uri?eid=2-s2.0-84863269104&doi=10.1039%2fc2sm07462a&partnerID=40&md5=296dc6acda551da93b28babf2d84cc5d
