Among the known populations, the one living in Pearl River Estuary is the larges one. The size of the Taiwan population approximates 85 dolphins. Current status of humpback dolphin on the Redlist of IUCN is “Near Threatened”, while the Taiwan population is the only one listed in the “Critical Endangered”. Despite the abundance/size, habitat characteristics and distribution of the Taiwan population has been known, knowledge regarding cross-regional communication, phylogeny, genetic diversity, stage-specific mortality/survival rate, annual reproductive rate, rate of increase, trophic level, and population viability are remaining deficiency, which functions as the baseline information for making sound conservation measures. This study, on the basis of proceeding works, will further explores above-mentioned unknown but highly needed baseline information, as well as continuously monitors current status of Taiwan population. The results will be discussed in a cross-regional consideration, comparing to neighboring populations like the Xiamen and the Pearl River Estuary ones. This study does not only reinforce current knowledge of population biology of the Taiwan population, but also enriches the baseline information of humpback dolphin around western Pacific Oceans, helping to provide quantified and qualified guideline for conservation.中華白海豚族群存續力保育Sousa chinensispopulation viabilityconservation中華白海豚台灣族群的族群結構及遺傳多樣性研究
