The proposed system offers a plethora of opportunities in the self-sustainable, greener, and self-sufficient desalination of abundant agricultural brackish wastewater (and even saline water). The developed electrochemical process could use three types of wastewater streams (i.e., piggery/saline, acidic, and alkaline wastewater) to produce clean water, chemicals (such as Na2SO4, and NaCl), and electricity. The major objectives of this research project are (i) to design and develop the prototype of an electrochemical neutralization-based desalination unit for agricultural wastewater having abundant nutrient and salt concentration (FY22); (ii) to improvise the existing electrodialysis technique by overcoming the two major limitations of electrodialysis: ohmic iR losses and contamination of desalinated water by the products of redox reactions (FY22-FY23); (iii) to evaluate the performance of the self-sufficient and self-dependent ability for its energy requirements (FY23); (iv) to assess the carbon footprint and environmental impact followed by the economic and environmental feasibility of the developed desalination unit (FY23-FY24); (v) to explore the applicability of alkaline and acidic wastewater from other water sources (e.g., natural water body or industries) in the proposed electrochemical cells.開發先進電化學模組同步進行營養鹽回收與能源生產:以養豬廢水為例
