Its mission is to nurture professionals and experts with visionary, innovation and excellence in biotechnology and environmental sciences through offering flexible courses such as soil physics and chemistry, plant nutrition and chemistry, pesticide chemistry, molecular microbiology, environmental chemistry and microbiology, food chemistry and various related chemistry courses. Besides the undergraduate degree program, the department also offers programs of graduate study leading to the degrees of Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy. The faculty of the department consists of nine professors, six associate professors and one assistant professor, with research focus mainly on (1) soil and environmental sciences, (2) plant physiology and chemistry, (3) microbiology and biotechnology, and (4) bioresource utilization. The department has a very strong research culture, in addition to securing competitive funding grants from the Ministry of Science and Technology, our faculties also received grants from the Council of Agriculture, Environmental Protection Administration and other government agencies, as well as from the industrial sectors for activities of numerous research projects. Graduates from the department are qualified for a variety of challenging and rewarding careers, such as teaching in colleges or universities, or as researchers in research institutes or industries. For students interested to become a professional agricultural chemist or a civil servant, they can take the national examinations on subjects such as agricultural chemistry, agricultural technology, chemical engineering, food technology, environmental analysis and other related subjects.本系為臺北帝國大學於1928年創校時最早設立的學系之一。前身為理農學部農藝化學科。1945年台灣光復後,本校改制為國立臺灣大學,本系以原日治時代農藝化學科為基礎,合併農學院其他科系部分講座,更名為農學院農業化學系。由於師資陣容堅強,設備完善,旋即於1947年成立研究所碩士班;1956年大學部分兩組:農產製造組與土壤肥料組;1968年更成立博士班,是國立臺灣大學農學院歷史最悠久,體制最完備的科系。 農業化學領域並是不因時空而褪色,農業化學仍然具有不可或缺、繼往開來的任務,更高品質之農產品與加工品之獲得與開發、更美好生態環境品質之維持與監測、土地與植物資源的調查與永續利用、微生物資源之開發與永續利用等,不但不因時光跨入二十一世紀而失去其重要性,反而更形重要。農業化學在人類生命與生活上具關鍵性之重要地位,因此,今天農業化學不但要以傳統農業化學的學理與技術為基礎,更要以先微生物學、化學與生命科學的學理與技術為工具,創造二十一世紀人類更幸福、更美好與更健康的生活。Agricultural ChemistryAcademic Institute
