Switched-bias technique is employed for phase noise reduction while varactors with binary-weighted capacitor arrays are used to increase the frequency tuning-range. Implemented in a 0.18-μm CMOS technology, the quadrature-phase VCO core consumes a dc power of 24 mW from a 2-V supply voltage. The maximum output frequency is 9 GHz with 16% frequency tuning-range. The measured phase noise is − 99.48 dBc/Hz at 1-MHz offset frequency. |
