The major etiological factor was Hb Bart's (53.1%). Rh incompatibility has only contributed 2 cases (6.3%). Twelve cases had antepartum and/or intrapartum FHR monitoring. All of the 9 hydrops fetalis due to Hb Bart's had smoothing FHR pattern. The major ultrasonographic findings were fetal ascites (93.7%), bulky placenta (75.0%), scalp edema (46.9%), polyhydramnios (12.5%) and hydrothorax (6.3%). Ultrasonographic examination and FHR monitoring may help to elucidate the etiology of this heterogenous disease entity. |
