Compared to conventional mushroom-type / pin-based elements, planar structures allow for ease in the scalability of radio frequency (RF) devices to the sub-THz frequency band using the existing manufacturing technique. A square patch-type AMC element is considered for simplicity. The periodic AMC structure is applied in a groove gap waveguide type structure in place of pins to study the effectiveness of the structure. An approach to optimize the performance of the AMC is also shown using simulation results. |
