Featuring highly professional yet comparatively young faculty members, genuinely free atmosphere, integration of interdisciplinary studies, and substantial interaction with other departments in the College of Management, Department of Information Management can safely be named as one of the best academic units to train specialists in information management science. As our department continues to grow, we have set up four strategies for breakthrough development in the future.
To achieve our first strategy—enhancing academic research dynamite—we will follow several approaches. Strengthening publication and industry liaisons are our primary goals. Our department will hire outstanding scholars to enlarge faculty, and seek research collaboration opportunities with globally-renowned scholars and experts. As we wish to take a leading role in this field, we will take opportunity to hold important conferences, such as Information Management Doctoral Consortium, Taiwan’s largest conference in academic circle of Information Management.
Since the study of Information Management involved a wide range of research topics, our second strategy is to further elaborate its interdisciplinarity characteristic. Related methods are forming research groups, involvement of interdisciplinary projects, and diversity in collaborators. Our faculty has initiated an interdisciplinary research projects founded by National Science Council, and has formed into three research groups: Business Intelligence & Knowledge Management Group, Cloud Services & Information Security Group, and Service Innovation & Social Networks Group. At this moment we are arranging collaboration plans with top universities around the world.
Thirdly, we wish to improve teaching quality. We are planning to hire new faculty to lower student-teacher ratio and reduce teaching load. Also, our department will provide assistance and subsidies to professors’ endeavors related to this strategy, such as curriculum innovation, substantial class discussion and teaching material compilation.
Finally, our most important strategy is to become an internationally recognized academic unit. We will provide more English-speaking classes and English learning programs to our students, and also encourage them to participate in international academic contests. Faculty will be rewarded for their involvement in the international academic circle, such as conducting visits, generating collaboration agreements, attending international conference, and serving posts of international journals and academic organizations. We also seek more collaboration opportunities with top universities around the world, and at this moment we are focusing on Dual Degree program and Joint Degree program.
Having executing successfully the first five years of the Develop Plan for World Class University, Department of Information Management has built up foundations in various aspects, such as researching dynamite, interdisciplinary collaboration, teaching quality improvement, and earning international reputation. Thus, the groundwork has been laid for our future ambitions for the next five years in the academic circle of Information Management: consolidate leading position in Taiwan, reaching Top 5 in Asia and Top 50 in the world.
