Abstract
We develop a miniaturized microfluidic platform integrating membrane-based, sedimentation-assisted plasma separation with cardiovascular disease (CVD) biomarker detection. The microfluidic platform can extract 177 μL plasma from 400 µL whole blood within 7 minutes and subsequently detect the biomarker in the undiluted plasma by an embedded electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) sensor. The EIS sensor successfully detected C-reactive protein (CRP), a cardiovascular disease biomarker, in a broad range from 1 ng/mL to 10 µg/mL. Highly integrated, the microfluidic platform exhibits great potential for point-of-care (POC) diagnostics.
