Abstract
The Study focused on the planning history of Taipei city is one of the case study series on related topic in Taiwan Cities By reviewing the history, we can ident1fy characteristics of the urban spatial structure, which were resulting from the operation of various planning theories. The planning history of Taipei city under Japanese colonial era divided into three time periods as follows: (1) streets and buildings reconstruction planning period (AD. 1895-1919) (2) city areas expansion planning period (AD. 1905-1932) (3) city comprehensive planning period (AD. 1921-1945) The contents of the planning and the characteristics of the development in each period are explored The purpose of the study is to discuss the general rules or regulations applied to the evolution of urban spatial structure. City edge, center, corridor, vacant land green space, land use and urban form are basic viewpoints on which the characteristics mentioned above are analyzed.
