Methods: Sample consisted of 45 families of children with DS and 50 control families. Both parents responded to the Chinese version of the Brief Symptom Rating Scale, Family Adaptability and Cohesion Evaluation Scale, Parental Bonding Instrument, Dyadic Adjustment Scale, and Child Behavioral Checklists. Results: Our findings showed that the parents of children with DS suffered from more psychopathology, the children with DS demonstrated more behavioral problems, and their siblings may not have gotten as much parental care or discipline as their counterparts. Conclusions: The mental health of parents and siblings of children with DS needs to be emphasized as much as that of the children with DS. |
