Abstract
Several usually made assumptions in a capillary suction apparatus test are verified in this work. Within a statistical confidence level, the wet front shape can be taken as an ellipse in a cylindrical capillary suction apparatus (CCSA) test or a straight line in a rectangular capillary suction apparatus (RCSA) test. The particle sedimentation effects on capillary suction time (CST) in a CCSA or RCSA test is evaluated theoretically, and the result indicates that the effects should be insignificant in most cases. The CST is also little affected by the top and the bottom plates, or when the inner cylinder loading is 9000 Pa. (from Authors)
