Abstract
This paper examines a two-dimensional (2-D) parallel-plate parabolic reflecting structure to implement the Beam forming network (BFN) for the directional beam radiation of phased array of antennas, which is realized in the substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) structure. To further reduce the intrinsic insertion loss of dielectric substrate, the air cavity technique is utilized for electromagnetic (EM) wave propagation inside the substrate. A prototype has been examined for a single-feed input and multi-output excitation to radiate high directive beams, fabricated in the standard PCB to demonstrate its feasibility. In addition, the proposed topology with corrugated structure along the reflective surface is adopted to minimize the multi-path interference, which is also compared to the original configuration. The measured results show that the SIW antenna with corrugation structure presents a low loss and high directivity characteristics at 38 GHz application.
