Abstract
This paper examines the implementation of Rotman lens beamformer to excite an electrically large phased array of antennas for multi-beam radiations. The goal is to relieve the number limitation of antenna ports arising from the limited surface profile of Rotman lens. Thus the confinement of sidelobe levels and beamwidths can be performed by increasing the array size and tapering the amplitudes of excitations. The radiation discrepancy due to the phase distortion by the defocused feeds will be also examined to justify the valid feeding area for orthogonal beamforming. Theoretical concepts will be first discussed with numerical examples shown to validate the feasibility and applicable scope.
