Abstract
In this study, we developed a methodology using radar system to detect the field topography. The radar system we used is an active remote sensing device which includes a pulse generator, three antennas, and an oscilloscope. Considering the influence of weather and environmental noises, we used 4 GHz microwave as our carrier wave. Relative distances reflected by the detected objects are analyzed with Cross-Correlation Function. In the field experiments, we used signal generator to emit an impulse and reflected signals are received by a Yagi-Uda antennas. The reflected signals recorded by oscilloscope are analyzed by the Cross-Correlation Function to identify the relative distances for different objects. The field experiments showed that microwave can penetrate trees and bushes, and the distances measured in the field experiment has a maximum error of 4%. © 2012 American Scientific Publishers.
