Abstract
The aim of this report is to present an overview on the recent developments in the preparation and modification of polymeric membranes. On membrane preparation, we concentrate on discussing the progress in two interesting techniques: vapour-induced phase separation and lithography technique. The first one has been used to prepare a membrane surface with an ordered pattern and superhydrophobicity, and the second one can be used to prepare membranes with sharp pore distributions. On membrane modification, we introduce several advanced chemical and physical methods to tailor the membrane microstructure and morphology, including interfacial polycondensation, photo-polymerization, surface coating, modification with block copolymers, and the formation of mixed-matrix type membranes. © Lavoisier.
