Abstract
An efficient method for estimating the nuclear ratio of heterocaryotic fungal cells from nuclear distribution is proposed. Conventional way of evaluating this ratio requires the estimation with three kinds of culture plates, i.e., “heterocaryotic” cells grow in a minimum medium while two kinds of homocaryotic cells grow in their own selective medium. In contrast, knowing the number of nuclei in each cell suffices the determination of nuclear ratio in the present approach, and therefore, tedious procedure needed for differentiating nuclei with different biochemical marker is avoided. The applicability of the proposed algorithm is justified through analyzing experimental data appeared in the literature. © 1987, Elsevier B.V.
