Abstract
To shift the absorbance range of TiO 2 into visible light, Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 (FT) prepared by hydrothermal method was further synthesized to form the Cu loading Fe 3 O 4 @TiO 2 (CFT) by adding the copper sulfate into FT. CFT samples were then calcinated in different temperatures. The removal of Congo red and bisphenol A (BPA) was performed with these calcinated CFTs. CFTs were analyzed in X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray absorption near-edge structures and UV-Vis spectrophotometer. Although the titanium, iron and copper reached the highest oxidation state for all CFTs, their magnetism was still kept after the calcination. The features of Fe 3 O 4 disappeared gradually by the rising of calcination temperature but those of TiO 2 were more obvious, indicating that iron could be further oxidized and TiO 2 was formed. By the UV- Vis analysis, CFTs can absorb visible light and 350 CFT had the highest absorbance. Under visible light and UVA, Congo red and BPA were degraded with CFTs. Calcinated CFT at 500°C had a higher BPA removal rate than others. But for Congo red, CFT had a higher removal rate than others. This study provided some better understandings for the modified TiO 2 synthesis through sol-gel methods and its application in the removal of organic pollutants.
