Abstract
The objective of this chapter is intended to present the mission and strategies on three issues: sustainable energy, integrated watershed management, and eco-industrial park. The relative key performance indicators toward sustainability made by the Taiwan Government are also introduced. As suggested by Dr. Ma Ying-Jeou, President of Republic of China, not only we will take the lead in initiating national environmental policies, but also we will demand national policies be focused on the environment. The National Sustainable Development Policy Guidelines were drawn up by the National Council for Sustainable Development based on Agenda 21: Taiwan Sustainable Development Strategic Guidelines. The National Sustainable Development Policy Guidelines include an overall vision, basic principles, concepts, and local policies. Local governments also develop their own environmental action plans toward sustainability based on the National Sustainable Development Policy Guidelines. The best way to implement the above policy for all is to co-ordinate the efforts of all involved stakeholders — manufacturers, academic experts, government officials, environmental protection groups, community organizations, etc — while promoting the concepts of sustainable community.
