Abstract
Abstract The objective of this paper is to demonstrate the capability of some commercially available adsorbents (XAD‐2, XAD‐8, Activated Carbon) to treat waste water containing ABS (Alkyl Benzene Sulfonate). Laboratory experiments were performed to determine the adsorption capacity, effective diffusion coefficient and activation energy for each adsorbent. As a result, the AC‐B and XAD‐2 adsorbents were selected as potential adsorbents to run column tests i.e., service and regeneration cycles. Based on the results of treatability studies the optimum adsorbent was chosen. The most effective regenerant (CH 3 OH) was found on the basis of the extraction (distillation) efficiency and unit price associated with each organic solvent.
