No cancer was detected among these 200 asymptomatic subjects. The prevalence of colonic adenomas in women with breast cancer was 15% and was almost identical to the prevalence of colonic adenomas in age-matched control women (14%) (odds ratio: 1.08, 95% CI=0.51- 2.30). The mean size of adenomas was 6.5 mm and 6.3 mm for the breast cancer group and the control group respectively (p>0.05). There was no significant difference in the percentage of highly dysplastic adenomas in women with breast cancer varies (5% VS 4%) (p>0.05). We conclude that a personal history of breast cancer predicts neither a higher prevalence of colonic adenomas nor a higher prevalence of highly dysplastic adenomas; there appears little justification for special colorectal surveillance of women with a personal history of breast cancer.A prospective study of colonoscopic screening was conducted to evaluate the risk of colonic neoplasms in one hundred asymptomatic women with a history of operated breast cancer and compared the results to those in one age-matched control women.
