Abstract
Triphenylamine-containing electrochromic materials revealing significant color changes by electrochemically induced redox reactions are attractive with great potential for low energy-consumption displays, light-adapting mirrors in vehicles, and smart window applications. These materials have experienced an exponential growth of research interests and have rapidly developed into an emerging field. In this review, the newly developed triphenylamine-based derivatives and polymers in the past few years are summarized, with emphasis on the synthetic approaches as well as their potential applications. © 2018 The Royal Society of Chemistry.
