Abstract
The review of the literature shows the great abundance of Contrastive Rhetoric studies comparing different aspects of the most diverse genres between English and other languages, including Spanish. However, the majority of these works assume that the results of a diatopic variety of the texts analyzed can be extrapolated without further ado to the rest of the diatopic varieties. However, it is difficult to argue that speech communities of languages spoken in several countries write the same gender identically. This questioning has given rise to Variational Pragmatics that proposes to study the effect of macro-social factors on the use of language. Nevertheless, these studies have been virtually non-existent with a written language corpus. The present work intends to continue this barely unexplored path analyzing the use of additive connectors in news of traffic accidents in Spanish and Ecuadorian newspapers, showing their concomitances and divergences. ? 2018, ? 2018, ? 2018 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.
