Esophagogram showed a characteristic intraluminal cauliflower filling defect in the middle portion of the esophagus. Subtotal esophagectomy with lymph node dissection and reconstruction were performed. Cytokeratin, E-cadherin and CD44v6 studies revealed the evident features of transition between both carcinomatous and sarcomatous portions of the tumor and suggested a common origin of these two components. Immunoreactivity of p53 protein implicating the p53 tumor suppressor gene in the pathogenesis of human esopageal cancers and high PCNA labeling index predicting the malignant potential were well demonstrated. Careful follow-up emphasized on hematogenous metastasis was carries out. |
