Abstract
The SiC waveguide employed to the all-optical data processing is demonstrated by using two-photon absorption induced free-carrier absorption and nonlinear Kerr effect induced refractive index switching. The composition ratio and structure of the SiC material can be detuned to change its nonlinear absorption as well as refractive index. The free-carrier absorption provides a transient pump-to-probe uniform transformation with its data rate limited by the free carrier lifetime. By using the pure nonlinear refractive index switching, the SiC waveguide can demonstrate up to 12-Gbps wavelength conversion of pulsed return-to-zero on-off keying data stream with the signal to noise ratio of 8 dB and a bit-error-ratio of 2.85×10 -10 .
